I live in India and travelled to Sydney(Australia) for a week in September. I have two SIM cards in my phone both Indian service provider. However while going to Australia, I purchased a SIM card which would provide me data in Australia.
When I returned to India, I found that my Google One subscription for extra space had expired and I needed to make payment to subscribe to their membership plan.
When I tried to upgrade my membership of Google One by paying through Credit Card, it gave the error message :
“Couldn’t complete your purchase. Check that you have the correct country selected in your Play account.”
I checked my country set up in Google Play account and it was set correctly to India. I tried changing Payment method but it did not help.
I realized that my Australian SIM card was still in phone and that may have been creating issues. I removed that SIM card and restored by original Indian SIM card. But nothing helped.
I checked internet for various any possible solutions but i did not help. These included only using Mobile Data(not wifi), making sure no VPN was being used.
I cleaned up Google Play cache and storage – did not help.
I cleaned Google Map cache and storage but no luck!
Finally I connected to Google help line and repeated steps suggested(similar to mentioned above). When it did not help, they said they would get back to me in 3 days!
As storage space I was using was around 76 GB(against free space of 15 GB), I was facing operational difficulties with back up etc including continuous warning of email not being available after certain number of days etc.
[Solution] Finally what worked is as follows(suggestion from internet).
1. Go to Google Pay (GPay) and search for “Play Store” and you would find “Play Store Recharge Code” or something similar.
2. Now make payment into this to create a balance in Play Store. I initially paid Rs 300 to try it out. This payment went through successfully and it showed a recharge code in the receipt. I also received an email with the same detail.
3. Now while making payment through google play for Google One or any other app, you can use the option of “Redeem Code” right at the bottom of payment method options.
I used “Redeem Code” option of payment and had to give code sent by google on email or in receipt. It is a long one but can also be scanned to make it easy.
This worked!!! Problem Solved!
